The Security Systems Programmer is responsible for the integration, programming, and ongoing
support of enterprise-level access control, surveillance, and intrusion detection systems. This role
ensures systems are configured to meet operational and security requirements, optimized for
performance, and maintained according to industry best practices.
System Integration & Programming
• Program, configure, and optimize access control, surveillance (CCTV/IP video), and intrusion
detection systems for both new installations and existing environments.
• Develop system logic for custom functionality, user permissions, and event responses.
• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and field technicians to ensure smooth
implementation.
Testing, Troubleshooting & Support
• Conduct system testing, validation, and troubleshooting to resolve technical issues.
• Provide Tier 2/3 technical support to end users and internal teams.
• Maintain system uptime through proactive monitoring and performance tuning.
Documentation & Compliance
• Create and maintain programming documentation, configuration records, and as-built drawings.
• Ensure compliance with organizational security policies, customer requirements, and regulatory
standards.
• Stay current with emerging technologies, firmware updates, and software advancements.
Education & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field (preferred).
• Proven experience in programming and integrating enterprise-level security systems.
• Familiarity with Mercury, LenelS2, Genetec, Openpath, Avigilon, Axis, Hanwha, or comparable
platforms.
Technical Skills
• Proficiency in programming logic and configuration of access control, surveillance, and intrusion
detection systems.
• Strong knowledge of networking concepts (TCP/IP, VLANs, PoE, routing, VPN).
• Experience with scripting or programming languages such as C/C++, Python, or Java (a plus).
Certifications (Preferred)
• Manufacturer certifications (e.g., Axis Certified Professional, Lenel Certified Associate, Genetec
Security Center).
• Industry credentials (e.g., ASIS PSP, BICSI, CompTIA Network+).
Soft Skills
• Strong problem-solving ability and analytical mindset.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a project team.
